Considering the Smart ForTwo 450, you can’t open the doors if the car battery is dead. What you can do, is to use the key, the metal part of the key, and open the trunk door in a classic way. The car will get open, including the doors and you can access each door.
Just don’t forget to change the key battery.
Considering the Smart ForTwo 451, and a dead key battery, you have the option to open the driver door with the metal part of your key. You have to remove the plastic protection and there’s the door lock system, you can use it manually.
So, you have a Smart Roadster 452.
What about the Smart ForTwo or ForFour 453?
2. The car battery is dead.
Considering the Smart ForTwo 450, you can’t open the doors if the car battery is dead. What you can do, is to use the key, the metal part of the key, and open the trunk door in a classic way. Then, you can step into the car and you can try a gymnast move to open the doors manually.
Of course, this is not the nicest way to open your car, maybe you are dressed nicely or business. You have to change the key battery.
