Smart Flant In Hambach Goes To INEOS Automotive

Based on the negotiations regarding the future of employees and the continuation of production at the Hambach plant, no significant negative effects are expected in the fourth quarter of 2020 that would negatively impact the earnings of Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans.

The common goal of Mercedes-Benz AG, INEOS Automotive, the employee side and politics was to secure employment at the location. Production of the current two-seater smart EQ electric vehicles at the Hambach plant will continue.

Thanks to the constructive cooperation of all those involved, a key negotiating goal was achieved: securing the employees at smart France SAS and system partners at the site who have accepted an offer of employment. Together that is around 1,300 employees.

INEOS Automotive is a British off-road vehicle manufacturer and a subsidiary of the British chemical company Ineos. The British would like to offer a large four-wheel drive SUV under the name “Grenadier” from 2021, to produce 25,000 units per year.
